Environmental Policy

As a broad-based international business-to-business (B2B) media company, CMPi recognises that its activities, products and services may have an impact on the environment. CMPi also recognises that whilst it can have a key role in raising the environmental awareness of its suppliers and customers, its potential influence as a media and communications organisation can also be far greater in terms of reaching a much wider audience.

CMPi has identified its key impacts to be the use of energy, the use of paper and the generation of waste from its operations. These impacts not only arise from its own activities but also from those of its suppliers and contractors across printing, distribution, exhibition/event and transportation companies.

In order to reduce its overall impact, and maximise its contribution to sustainable development, CMPi is implementing an environmental management system and is committed to:

·               Seeking to prevent and reduce its direct and indirect environmental impact, with a particular focus on:

·               reducing energy use and carbon emissions associated with the buildings it occupies, its travel activities, exhibitions and products

·               the sustainable sourcing of paper and the use of environmentally preferable materials for exhibitions and print products

·               minimising waste and increasing the recycling of waste produced by offices, events and during the life cycle of its products

·               the effective monitoring of the environmental performance of CMPi’s suppliers and contractors

·               Continuously improve its environmental performance and contribute to raising the environmental awareness of CMPi’s stakeholders via our publishing, online, event, conference  and exhibition activities

·               Encourage and support suppliers, partners and customers to use environmentally preferable materials and solutions

·               Comply with environmental good practice applicable to its activities and products and with the environmental policy requirements of United Business Media plc, its parent company

CMPi’s colleagues across the business are also actively engaged in seeking ways to lessen its environmental impact. A number of groups, comprised of committed volunteers and each championed by a Board member, are evaluating areas of our activities such as travel, production operations and offices to see how they can improve CMPi’s environmental performance and lessen its carbon footprint.

CMPi will set evolving objectives and targets to assist it in driving performance improvement in the above areas.  CMPi’s stated ambition is therefore to reduce its carbon consumption and emissions by a minimum of 5% per annum.

Working together with its colleagues, customers and business partners, CMPi will continue to monitor and communicate its progress and to lead by example in environmental good practice.
