What sort of things do you do in the course of your week?
Work closely with my team to organise profitable awards ceremonies within the Music and Security arena amongst others. I meet with Publishers and Editors of the magazines I am running awards programmes alongside in order to develop the existing products ensuring that they are reflective of the changing markets that they operate in, that we maintain credibility , and that we maintain and increase market awareness. Main duties include aiding design for the look and feel of the night, analysing the categories, writing entry forms and generating entries, appointing panels of industry experts to become our judges, organising judging days, working closely with the production teams both in design and technical, generating table sales and putting together the final table plan… as well as everything else which an event can throw at you, generally anything!
What’s the best thing about your job?
Working with people I really respect and get along with. My manager for example has nine years experience within events so I am learning and picking up tips all the time - we can work closely together during the day and still go for a drink in the evening.
What gets you out of bed on a wet, cold Monday morning?
Usually my boyfriend with the smell of burnt toast!
What’s been a major highlight of your career to date?
I would say my first major event (Music Week Awards 2007) being just brilliant...very profitable and the audience referred to it as the best ever. Smoothly ran and a really proud moment watching all my work coming together
Future ambitions in your role?
To make all events I work on credible within the industry and interesting to attend. Advance my knowledge and skills within the events sector to enable me to progress in my current role and beyond.
What achievement are you most proud of since you joined the company?
Producing an event along with my team which was historically out sourced, the ceremony was received by the industry with excellent feedback and also nearly tripled the contribution.
Have you travelled with your job? If so, where and why?
If you count Birmingham then yes! I am working on an event there within the following year for IFSEC and have spent time visiting possible venues.
What has been a memorable team event?
Winning team of the month; an internal competition. Music & Brands, a conference I worked on along side Caroline Jackson and Louiza Skinner, won team of the month. Fifteen of us travelled by the Flying Scotsman to Southampton and sailed on an old Thames barge off the South coast and Cowes, great team day out especially for me as sailing was my previous career.
Why would you recommend someone working at CMPi?
It’s a large company which is constantly changing- in a good way. This allows you to develop skills and gain experience a small company can not provide.
If you had to describe your life at CMPi in three words, what would they be?
Varied, hectic, rewarding.
